PUBLIC ART COURTESY OF THE CITY
OR
WELCOME TO THE 'HOOD
ALBANY CENTRAL DIMLY RECALLS that once upon a time we had "neighborhoods" in Albany.  No more.  According to the latest Albany Activity Guide we now have "hoods" (p.33)  The  exhortation is to "Help fight graffiti in your 'hood" and the city will help by supplying you with paint kits to cover brown, black, or green graffiti. Our informant tells us they are working on kits for pink, orange, chartreuse, mauve, and several other stylish colors.

BUT BE CAREFUL!!  The City Attorney has advised that painting over City signs or property is a felony (well, maybe a misdemeanor--but anyway, it's not good) and you could find yourself in jail, or, at a minimum, doing hours and hours of community service (such as sweeping the gutters on lower Solano) instead of going to your school or job.  The bright side is that with City signs and property off limits, the job of fighting graffiti is reduced by about 90% since it is upon city property that most graffiti is found, as the signs below illustrate.
